Gateway News

Thank you everyone for a great year!

Tupperware sales - please turn in money by the 20th!

If you have not paid for May please so so. We still have utility bills, internet costs and expenses for the end of year parties to pay. We distribute the costs over the 9 months to help the families, but we need to close this years books.

High School finishes up the 18th of May and students have until May 30th to turn in any assignments that are missing that they would like some credit for.

Next Tuesday, May 18- pot luck lunch 12:00 pm Bring food to share!

Thursday the 20th is cleaning day at Gateway. Time to clean and pack up and bring closure to the year. 1-3 pm

Field trip to the Merriville Pierce Middle School Planetarium is Monday May 24th. $2.00 a person, adults or K-12 students. Must be there by 9:30 am. There are still slots available, please email if you want to attend by Monday May 17th. After that, the remaining slots will be offered to the homeschool community outside of Gateway.

If you have not indicated that your jr/high or high school student will be with us again next year, please do so soon. At the end of the month we will announce if there are any openings and we will not be able to guarantee a spot if it is not reserved.

SUMMER

If you are interested in math or English tutoring this summer please let us know so we can put together some time slots. Individual cost is $10 per hour. Group sessions are less determined on the number of students enrolled. Normally $5 a session, which may be longer than an hour.

Piano, brass and woodwind lessons available at $10 per lesson - taught by Judy Gardner.

New this year:

High School Speech Boot Camp
June 7-11 from 9 am to 12 pm
$50
Based off of "Speech Boot Camp" by Institute for Excellence in Writing. Students will be required to prepare speeches at home each night to present the next day. Includes impromptu, introductory, narrative, descriptive, and persuasive... plus more.
(Note: Speech will also be offered as a semester class at the co-op next year if your student is unable to complete the week long intensive class.)

Jr. High Writing Mini Camp (grades 6-8)
June 7-9 from 1 - 3:30 pm
$25
Take away the fear of writing and give you students valuable keys for success! This middle school level course provides an introduction to Writing using structure and style developed by Institute for Excellence in Writing. Students will be required to complete a writing assignment on Monday and Tuesday nights to be used in class the next day.
(Great introduction to the Excellence in Writing program that we will use for the junior high at co-op next year.)

July 19-23 from 9-12

2010-2011 Registration

Material fees

Material fees cover copying costs, (ink, paper etc.) as well as incidentals for each class.
Material fees are due in August before classes begin. Material fees will be determined by June 15.

Registration begins May 4, complete registration form and submit registration fees to reserve space in class. Final decision on class offerings will be determined by June 15, based on number of students enrolled. Book information will be given at that time. Please do not purchase book before you are notified that the class minimums are met. All registration fees are non-refundable except in the event that minimum registration is not met or class exceeds maximum.

Parents are responsible for text books, initial material fee and
may be asked to provide miscellaneous supplies or make a small donation to cover additional costs if necessary throughout the year.


To offer this type of diversified program, we ask that all parents find a place to serve, whether it be teaching, assisting, grading papers, record keeping, setting up, tearing down, cleaning up, organizing parties, arranging field trips – or ??? The co-op will only function with your cooperation, which allows us to keep the costs down. ( All teaching materials will be supplied.)
